The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the international organization most closely related to the fields of Computer and Information Sciences. Its major purpose is to provide resources to its student and professional membership in an effort to promote advancement of related professions. Current works include a huge digital library, several periodical publications targetted at different segments of the membership, an international collegiate programming contest, conferences and various career resources. Lamar University's local ACM chapter is one of very many around the world. Run by students elected by other ACM student members, ACM Lamar designs and implements a variety of fun and educational extra-curricular activities for the benefit of Computer Science and Computer Information Science students.
